What is a baby lead session?

At Erica Charlene Photography, all newborn sessions are baby lead.  This means that poses are always natural and posing is done on the baby's schedule.  Sessions are scheduled for the time of day when baby will be nice and sleepy.  For newborns this is the morning, most babies are up all night, and extra sleepy in the morning because they are still adjusting to life outside of the womb, and often have their mornings and nights confused.  This is perfect for your newborn session!   With baby lead sessions we wait for the baby to be nice and sleep before attempting any posing to ensure baby safety.

Why do I specialize in maternity, newborn, & family photography?

I have always been driven to photography, and I feel it came naturally for me to pair my love of photography with my love of family.  Maternity images represent the beautiful journey of a woman’s body into motherhood. One of my biggest regrets in my journey to motherhood was not properly capturing these moments of my pregnancy. I can never go back in time and recreate that, but I hope I can help others feel beautiful in their pregnancy and love their images. With that belief I have taken my love of photography and used it capture what I deeply believe is most important to preserve in time beautiful images of those we love the most. My studio is optimized to create beautiful art for your home so you can view your images every day and enjoy images you love.

What to expect at your newborn session.

What to expect at your newborn session.

Newborn babies are best photographed between 7 to 14 days because babies are able to be moved around gently for multiple prop set ups, and they are more flexible to achieve those sleepy curly poses. Of course, babies of all ages are welcome as I believe it’s never too late to take beautiful photographs of your baby, however, it's important to keep in mind getting baby to sleep and settled may take a little longer the older he/she is.

I will have multiple sets ready at your session based on our previous discussions and planning. All props are provided so you do not need to worry about brining anything but yourselves. Sibling and parent posing are usually done at the end of the session so that the sibling and parent can arrive later.  I believe it is best for the sibling to do something fun beforehand, so they do not disturb the tranquility of the newborn session.

Newborn sessions are always “baby lead” this means that poses are never forced, I take my time to make sure that baby is fed, comfortable, and sound asleep before posing in a prop. Safety is always my number one priority, and patience is the best tool to get beautiful sleepy poses.
